Chalain

FISH TO YOUR HEART'S CONTENT

With its 230 hectares (the lake is almost 3km long) and its maximum depth of 32m, Lake Chalain is the Jura's largest natural lake, and is home to species especially prized by fishermen:

  • Whitefish, particularly abundant in Chalain, which attract hundreds of anglers every spring.
  • Perch, pike, zander and lake trout are also well-represented.

A FRAGILE SITE, CLOSELY MONITORED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE JURA FISHING FEDERATION

A fishing lease has been signed with the Jura Fishing Federation, which oversees fishing activities on Lake Chalain, as part of a long-standing partnership with the Jura Department and with different levels of involvement.

A fishing permit is compulsory (daily permit: €15.50; weekly: €35), to which can be added the option of fishing from a boat (€2 per day or €10 for the week). It is sold online at  https://www.cartedepeche.fr/

Only boats with electric motors are allowed, and mooring is prohibited.

Three slipways are available on Lake Chalain:

  • At Marigny on the northwestern end of the lake. This slipway is freely accessible all year round.
  • On the south shore of the lake: this slipway is accessible all year round, but a fee is charged from 1 June to 18 September.
  • At the Domaine: this slipway is closed from July to August. A fee is charged in June and from 1 September to 18 September.
